August 4, 1997 Los Angeles, CA:   At SIGGRAPH here today, General Reality Company introduced NetGlove, the world’s first developers kit for building gestural interfaces to 3D VRML content over the World-Wide Web. NetGlove operates with the 5th Glove DataGlove™, including the new Wireless 5th Glove also introduced today.

NetGlove is a new software developers kit for building powerful networked gesture recognition applications using 5th Glove DataGloves. Written in the JAVA™ programming language, it provides excellent interplatform portability, and provides Pentium-based personal computers with advanced context-sensitive gesture recognition capabilities previously available only to SGI users of General Reality’s GloveGRASP™ SDK. NetGlove performs gesture recognition at a server, allowing any machine on the Internet or a private Intranet to connect for performing glove-based gestural manipulation of the server’s data. NetGlove will ship with demonstration source code illustrating interactivity with a 3D VRML environment.
