January 14, 1997, San Jose, CA: General Reality Company today announced its new CyberEye 200 Series head-mounted displays, featuring twice the image resolution of the popular CyberEye 100 Series introduced in 1994.

The CyberEye 200 Series incorporates enhanced electronics, providing 181,000 pixels of display resolution with enhanced sharpness and improved color saturation. The new electronics design also provides customers with the option of NTSC, PAL, or selectable NTSC/PAL models.

CyberEye is the only sub-$2,000 HMD that combines the superior image quality of direct view optics with eyeglasses compatibility. In addition to its satisfaction guarantee, the CyberEye 200 also includes a new one-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The CyberEye 200 Series is now shipping in production quantities at $1,995. Options include dual-pipeline stereoscopic input, full-immersion eyecups, and an integrated CyberTrack(tm)-2 game tracker. The CyberTrack-2 includes software which allows players to turn their head to look around within a variety of popular games such as Rise of the Triad(tm), Witchhaven(tm), and Doom(r).
