General Reality Company Introduces Lowest-Cost Head Tracker in Virtual Reality IndustryCyberTrack-II Provides High-Speed Pitch and Yaw Tracking Plus Game Driver Software At Breakthrough $399 Price |
August 1, 1996, New Orleans, LA: General Reality Company today announced its new CyberTrack-II, the lowest-priced head tracker commercially available for virtual reality games. The CyberTrack-II provides arcade system integrators and other public entertainment developers with high-speed pitch and yaw sensing, simple serial port connectivity, and a complete collection of game driver software.
The $399 CyberTrack-II uses magnetic compass and gravimetric sensor technologies originally developed for military applications to capture and output user head orientation at 60hz, twice the rate of the original CyberTrack product. The new model is also smaller, and interfacing is significantly simpler than for the original $850 CyberTrack. The new tracker is shipped complete with developer software and operational drivers for several popular games, including Rise of the Triad, Witchhaven, Dark Forces, Mech. Warrior II, and Tekwar.
According to Arthur Zwern, president of General Reality Company, "the new CyberTrack-II provides the tracking performance arcade games demand, in a simple package, at a breakthrough price. It demonstrates our commitment to providing professional virtual reality customers with superior virtual reality products at the lowest possible prices".
The new CyberTrack-II is shipping now from stock, and will be displayed at General Reality's SIGGRAPH booth #2455. General Reality will include a free CyberTrack-II tracker and game drivers to all customers placing orders for its popular CyberEyeTM head-mounted displays at the show.
