GloveMotion is a powerful new tool for animators that provides real-time control of Alias ShapeShifter operations using low-cost instrumented gloves. Combining the popular 5th Glove computer input controller with a new MotionSampler plugin, GloveMotion interprets your hand orientation and the bend angle of each of your fingers to control individual ShapeShifter morphing operations. A single glove can control up to seven operations simultaneously, and up to four gloves can be used together to control complex objects such as fully-articulated humanoids.

One year of use by leading European production companies has demonstrated that GloveMotion applications save time and money, and are limited only by your needs and imagination. With a single finger, you can open and close an animated mouth for instant lipsync control. Use all five finegers for real-time hand animation, or for complete facial expresssion control of lips, eyes, and eyebrows. Add a second glove, and a single user can control two faces. Add a second user, and control faces, hands, and feet simultaneously. Since any ShapeShifter operation can be driven, you can contol anything from eight-legged spiders to waving palm trees. All in real-time, of course.

The $1,495 GloveMotion product consists of one right-handed 5th Glove, the MotionSampler plugin, and a glove server package running under Windows 95. Additional gloves are $495 right, $595 left. Simply connect your PC to your Alias workstation via Ethernet, load the software, connect 1-4 gloves to the PC's serial ports, and specify which glove output drives each desired ShapeShifter opeation.
