General Reality Company Ships New Gesture Recognition Software for SGI Platform |
October 21, 1996 San Jose, CA: General Reality Company is pleased to announce that GloveGRASPTM is now in beta release. GloveGRASP, developed in partnership with the HITLab, extends the popular 5th Glove dataglove to the SGI platform, and provides a complete gesture recognition developers library in C++ form. GloveGRASP's unique context-sensitive gesture recognition approach interprets a small set of user gestures differently depending upon context (ie; collided versus free-space), which provides higher recognition rates with fewer demands on the user.
The GloveGRASP product is now shipping with the following functions
- SGI device drivers for the 5th glove and Polhemus fastrak.
- Context-sensitive gesture recognition libraries for training and recognition.
- TCP/IP Networking functions, for client/server gesture recognition applications.
- A demonstration of 3D modeling using one glove and two FasTrak sensors. In this demonstration, gestures are used to call up menus, grab and manipulate objects, and edit entire scenes. Source code is included.
- Sample application source code for a standalone device driver and networked gesture recognition input.
- Adapter cables for SGI 9-pin and 8-pin serial ports.
- WorldToolKit drivers and demonstration (to ship in final release).
GloveGRASP is priced at $1,495 including a right-handed glove, or $2,090 including both left and right gloves. A special beta price of $1900 including both gloves is available through November by mentioning this post. All prices include six months of free upgrades, and a one-year hardware warranty. Additional information is available at www.genreality.com, which will include an HTML copy of the GloveGRASP developer's manual after November 8th.
